Community Description:

The award-winning RCA Museum is Canada’s National Artillery Museum, a Manitoba Star Attraction and one of the largest military museums in Canada. The exhibition facility is 24,000 square feet, including more than 12,000 square feet of indoor exhibits encompassing five major galleries. Numerous interactive exhibits and videos bring history to life.

It is the only museum in the world dedicated to telling the complete story of the more than 200,000 Canadian Gunners who have served Canada in war and peace since 1855. The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery (RCA) has been a part of the fabric of Canadian history since the earliest days of our nation.

Among the treasures is one of the largest collections of Canadian made military vehicles in the world and the largest and most complete inventory of artillery systems and documentation in Canada. The museum also has an extensive collection of approximately three hundred rifles, pistols and edged weapons dating back to the 1700s.

In 1962, the RCA Museum was established at Canadian Forces Base Shilo, Manitoba to preserve and interpret this proud heritage for future generations. The museum has amassed a collection and archives of national significance with over 65,000 artifacts including more than 150 artillery pieces and vehicles. The newest vehicle addition is the LAV III Monument which is on display at Canoe River Memorial Park and helps to tell the story about the Afghanistan mission including the sacrifice of 20 members from CFB Shilo.
