Community Description:

The Fredericton Capital Region has had a military presence for centuries and that long history is continued by the modern Base Gagetown, one of Canada’s largest training bases, located in the Town of Oromocto. #MakeFrederictonFirst created a cooperative regional bid amongst the municipalities of the Fredericton Capital Region (Fredericton, New Maryland, Hanwell and Oromocto).

The LAV III Monument is located adjacent to the Oromocto Cenotaph, in a prominent location right in the center of the Town of Oromocto. The post-war stone Cenotaph was erected in 1963 as a memorial to fallen soldiers of the First and Second World Wars, the Korean Conflict, and subsequent Canadian missions, and is also designated as a Local Historic Place. The LAV III Monument will now carry forward the Cenotaph’s legacy of honouring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice by lending some of its hallowed ground to a vehicle symbolic of our military’s most recent contribution, loss and sacrifice.
