In May 2012, 38 members of Canada Company travelled by Herc from Downsview base to CFB Meaford to take part in Exercise Collaborative Sunset, a full day exercise to give them a sample of a day in the life of a Canadian Forces member.
Participants were greeted by BGen Lewis and the Base Commander and were given information about their exciting day to come. At the range, they were instructed on the use of the standard military issue C7, engaged in an exercise to learn about advancing on and taking an enemy position, used Zodiaks to simulate a waterborne attack, and engaged in a simulated retaking of a FOB (forward operating base).
The afternoon closed with transport by Griffon helocopters to participate in a mock room-by-room house clearing exercise on base and then culminated with a full field Mess dinner highlighted with 20 minutes of military style “fireworks”.
